Horses are such beautiful and regal animals. There’s nothing quite like the bond between a girl and her horse, and capturing that connection in photos is pure magic. Whether you’re gearing up for a senior session or just want to showcase your partnership with equestrian photos, taking photos with your horse is a fun and unforgettable experience. Let’s dive into some tips to make your shoot a total showstopper!
Groom Your Horse
Make sure your horse is clean, brushed, and looking its best. Pay attention to details like hooves, mane, and tail.
Bring a Handler
Have someone nearby to assist in keeping the horse calm and holding it when needed. It's really helpful when you're changing outfits!
Choose the Right Outfit
Coordinate your outfit with your horse’s tack and the background. Neutral tones or earthy colors often work well, but if you get the right punch of color, that is fun, too! I like variety and think it's great to have one outfit that is more casual with jeans & have something more dressy for a second option. I think long flowy dresses look amazing!
Pick a Familiar Location
Select a location where your horse feels comfortable and safe. It's helpful if there aren't a lot of other horses or people around and to minimize distractions.
Take Your Time
Horses have their own pace. Typically, horses don't "pose" and that's not a bad thing! It's fun to get beautiful shots of you interacting with your horse like you naturally would, along with some more posed photos, too.
